Before the holidays it’s good to know that WordPress has been updated to version 5.3.2. Most web sites have been updated automatically but this depends a lot on the site. It’s affected for example by your web hosting provider and update settings. The update should not affect the functionality of your web site, but it is a good idea to visit their own pages and check that everything is still in order.

What’s new with the Wodpress update?

The major new features of WordPress Update mean that the management of your homepage may be slightly different than before, especially if you are writing blogs or news articles for your site. However there are no major changes in this version that affect you as a client.

One of the changes you may notice is that you now need to confirm the site administrator’s email address from time to time when signing in. This reduces the risk of being locked out of the site in the event of an email change. However this feature does not improve the actual security of your site.

Please note that without on-going maintenance and development plan with us, the webmaster’s email address should be some other than @ ratasdesign.com

Two-step authentication

We recommend installing two-step authentication on your website and hosting, which significantly improves the security of your website and thus your business. Authentication can be done conveniently by logging in to the site admin panel using a smartphone app.

Please contact us if you would like to enable highly recommended 2-step verification for your site as well.

WordPress PHP 7.4 support

It is always recommended to have the latest PHP version on the server hosting your website. The PHP version of the server is one of the most important factors affecting the security and speed of your site.

It’s a good idea to get yo know which PHP version your website is running on and upgrade to the latest supported version. It is best to leave the PHP update to a webmaster or another technical qualified person. Upgrading is relatively easy for most modern web hotels, but requires care and precautions to go over smoothly and efficiently without major issues.

Happy holidays and have a fantastic 2020!
